Symbian heeft bekend gemaakt dat zij zal worden overgenomen door het Finse Nokia. Symbian is bekend van de Psion palmtops en de software in mobile apperaten van Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Siemens en Sony Ericsson.
Symbian OS heeft al een langlopende relatie met nokia door de verwerkte software en applicatie’s in de Nokia’s. Dit vloeit voort uit een overname van aandelen van het Psion concern, voormalig grootaandeelhouder in Symbian. Met de transactie is ongeveer $93.5 miljoen dollar gemoeit.

Good examples include the UIQ software platform, the Series 60 Platform, the FOMA UI (user interface) and a number of vendor specific implementations – all running on top of the Symbian platform. This flexibility has resulted in a rich variety of advanced mobile devices enabling both handset manufacturers and operators to differentiate their offerings.
