Vandaag is de eerder al aangekondigde POP3 ondersteuning voor Gmail gelanceerd. Het nieuws is zojuist verschenen op de What’s New pagina van Gmail.
Deze nieuwe upgrade zorgt ervoor dat gebruikers hun e-mail in programma’s als Outlook, Outlook Express en Eudora kunnen binnenhalen. Het voordeel is dat de mailtjes dan ook offline te bekijken zijn. Bij critici rijst de vraag wat dan nog het voordeel is van de 1 gigabyte mailbox als je alle mailtjes op je pc opslaat.

Naast de POP ondersteuning is er nu ook een automatische forwars service in gebruik genomen. Hierdoor kan je mailtjes die op Gmail binnenkomen automatisch laten doorsturen naar een ander adres.
